About the Division of Science and Research

 

The Division of Science and Research, West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission, provides strategic leadership for infrastructure advancement and development of competitive research opportunities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics disciplines.

The office directs the National Science Foundation’s Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR) in West Virginia, coordinates scientific research grants to academic institutions from federal and state agencies, and conducts outreach activities to broaden the public’s understanding of science and technology.

Dr. Joan E. Wilson

Scientific spotlight - Dr. Joan E. Wilson

Dr. Joan E. Wilson works in a laboratory in the Robert C. Byrd Biotechnology Science Center at Marshall University. Dr. Wilson, a gene regulation specialist, is focusing on work that could better indicate the causes of diseases that presently have unknown origins. She was the second scientist to join the Marshall Institute for Interdisciplinary Research as part of the state's "Bucks for Brains" Research Trust Fund.
